Some people think individuals are more and more dependent on each other. Others believe we are more and more independent. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Today, we can apparently accomplish a lot of things without the help of others, which leads to the popular belief that we are becoming more and more independent. However, while we enjoy this independence in some ways, we are actually becoming more dependent on each other in others.

Independence means more freedom and less restrictions. Following this definition, we can easily find we have become much more independent than ever before. For instance, thanks tothe Internet, we can now sit at home and send letters to our friends without bothering to go to the post office. We can also use our smart phones as a tool for shopping and reading so that we are freed from driving to the supermarket or carrying heavy books with us. We have more independence in families, too. As people earn more money and enjoy better medical care, they no longer have to reply on their children to take care of them when they grow old, instead, they can spend their late years in the nursing home for the old. And, with women gaining more and more equality in the workplace, they have also gained the financial independence.

That said, I would argue that the independence we enjoy today comes at huge costs. As the labor division becomes more intensified, it is now very common that an individual becomes a moron when he has one step outside his own profession. As a consequence, he becomes more dependent on others in life. A Wall Street financial analyst may be extremely skillful in his field and earn tons of money to render his life very independent, yet without a plumber, his life may turn into a mess when a pipe is blocked in his kitchen. Then when he grows old and lives in the nursing home far away from his children, his loneliness will make him more dependent emotionally on them and this dependence really hurts.

It is, therefore, true that the development of science and technology does bring us more physical independence, but socially and emotionally, we may become more dependent on each other. (349 words)

Today, we can apparently accomplish a lot of things without the help of others, which leads to the popular belief that we are becoming more and more independent. However, while we enjoy this independence in some ways, we are actually becoming more dependent on each other in others.

(=complete;do successfully)(4)while 引导的句型很常见,相当于though。

Independence means more freedom and less restrictions. Following this definition, we can easily find we have become much more independent than ever before. For instance, thanks to the Internet, we can now sit at home and send letters to our friends withoutbothering to go to the post office.

Following this definition, ...; thanks to the Internet, ...; As people earn more money...; with women gaining more and more equality...,这些丰富多样的句子开头,表明的是唐老师具有灵活驾驭句子结构的能力。 (3) restriction 限制 (= limitation)(4) thanks to... 由于,因为(=because of; owing to...)(5) bother to do...

That said, I would argue that the independence we enjoy today comes at huge costs. As thelabor division becomes more intensified, it is now very common that an individual becomes a moron when he has one step outside his own profession.

(2) That said, ... 话虽如此(表达一个转折)(3) at huge costs 以巨大成本(4) labor division 劳动分工(5) As a consequence 结果(=consequently; as a result)(6) block 堵塞

It is, therefore, true that the development of science and technology does bring us more physical independence, but socially and emotionally, we may become more dependent on each other.
