Neighbor
1. Do you think neighbours are important?
Neighbours are important. We have an old saying in China, “better neighbours close to stay than relatives pretty far away.” That means, in case of emergencies, neighbour can always be the first to give us a hand. And also a good relationship with our neighbours enables us to live comfortably and happily in one neighbourhood. And when neighbours are friendly and kind to one another, they can work together more effectively to make their neighbourhood cleaner, better, safer and lovelier.
2. How can we get along with our neighbors?
Well, first I think we shall be kind and friendly to them. When we meet our neighbors during a walk, a warm greeting is always welcome and a nice smile will never fail to draw us close.
And second, try not to bother others. That may be interpreted in various ways, leave trash where it should be, don’t damage the greens in the neighborhood, drive slowly or keep volume down at night.
Then, always ready to help. Sometimes, emergency may happen to anyone. And if we are the handy help, don’t hesitate or think twice. Help first and then deal with the rest.
3. Do you think people's relationships with their neighbours today is the same as it was in the past?
Well in villages, I don’t see much difference. My grandparents live in a village in Shandong province and we always drive to visit them. People there seem to know the names of all and they constantly go to visit their neighbours or friends in the family. During dinner time in summer, many people will eat in the street together with people living around them, talking and laughing. But in the cities, the stories can be really different. We always say it is much colder to live in cities. We can have the telephone numbers of many people, but no numbers are of our neighbours. We rarely know their names or their jobs. And we may not have the chance to know one another if we don’t walk dogs.
4. What are the benefits of belonging to a community?
Well, there can be many benefits.
We all know that human beings are social beings and it is human nature to see where they belong, which is much more crucial when most people have to live far from hometown for studies or jobs. A sense of belonging to a community might bring the feeling of being home and enable us to feel we are cared and secure.
And when we feel that belonging to a community, we will live more comfortably. I mean who will not feel comfortable to be at home, right?
