The popular image of the Tyrannosaurus Rex as a slow, large, lumbering dinosaur may be incorrect according to recent theories. In fact, “T-rex” might have been a swift runner: a kind of super-predator. The evidence for this conclusion is threefold. Most tellingly, T-rex’s teeth marks have been found on the skeletal remains ofsmaller dinosaur species known to have been fleet runners. This means that, in allprobability, the T-rex could run faster than its prey. Few predators, after all, will eatcarrion. So the likelihood is low that the tooth-marks are due to T-rex feeding ondead animals it found.
Second, a number of zoologists have pointed out that the bone structure of T-rex’shind legs and those of today’s tiger are quite similar. Since the tiger is a relativelyswift predator, it is highly likely that T-rex shared this trait.Recent finds have been made in the Sahara Desert of a T-rex relative called“Kryptops palaios”. Scientists have described the relative as something akin to a“fast, bipedal hyena”. Fossil evidence shows its footprints frequently occur fartherapart than the animal’s stride, strongly indicating the Kryptops was a fast runner. If so, this raises the possibility that its “cousin”, the T-rex was likewise fleet of foot.

假说
[ 原文摘要 ]
Tyrannosaurus Rex swift runner super-predator
[ 笔记转述 ] The Tyrannosaurus Rex is a super fast runner.
根据 1
[ 原文摘要 ] teeth marks → small dino (runner)
T-rex run fast > prey
[ 笔记转述 ] T-rex can run fast because the teeth marks found on the remaining
skeletal of small dinosaurs indicate that they are quick runners.
根据 2
bone structure T-rex = tiger(swift)
[ 笔记转述 ] T-rex is a swift dinosaur because its bone structure is similar to one
of another fast predator, the tiger.
根据 3
[ 原文摘要 ]
T-rex relative ft print (fossil evd) farther apart> animal’s→ fast runner
[ 笔记转述 ]T-rex is a fast runner because the footprints of its relative from the fossil evidence show its feet are farther apart than other animal species.

OK, I guess we can start our today’s reading of dinosaurs. The article makes some interesting guesses. Unfortunately, there are pretty strong reasons to think all of
these are incorrect.
T-rex’s teeth marks have been found on fast-running dinosaurs. The writer saysthis proves T-rex could run because predators don’t eat carrion. However, they’ll eateverything even the death when they’re hungry. I still doubt about some theoriesthat T-rex used to be able to outrun swift prey because there are dinosaurs’ tooth-marks on the prey bones! Besides, T-rex had a highly developed olfactory system. Itcould smell dead stuff for miles. So, the point about bones proves very little.
As for tiger bones, the length and proportions do resemble the tiger’s. But, for thelikely weight of the animal, the walls of T-rex bones are very thin. They’re a lot morelike bird bones in that respect. If a tiger had bones similarly thin, it would break itsown legs trying to run. Therefore, the point is a little bit unilateral. As for the T-rex relative, if you look at the picture here you’ll notice how small thehead of Kryptops is. And everyone knows how large the T-rex’s head is. Of coursethe Kryptops could run faster! Its muscles did not have to support a big head. ForT-rex, however, the case is quite different. Therefore, the assertion here is not quitethe truth.
【Note-taking】笔记如下 :
反驳 × correct
[ 笔记转述 ] The reasons in the reading are not correct.
理由 1 eat everything esp death hungry dead stuff
[ 笔记转述 ] The teeth marks on the bone cannot prove the T-rex can run fast,
because animals eat whatever they can get when they are starving.
The swift prey might be dead meat.
理由 2 T-rex would have done.
bone…thin → break legs if run
[ 笔记转述 ] The bone structure might be similar to that of the tiger, but it is very
thin and can break easily if runs too fast.
理由 3 larger head than its fast-running relative
[ 笔记转述 ] The size of the T-rex head is so big that it cannot run faster than its
relative who has a small head.
